The problem it genuinely solves

Several South African card issuers decline transactions carrying a gambling merchant code as a matter of blanket policy. If your bank is one of them, no amount of retrying will help — the transaction is refused before it reaches the operator.

Crypto sidesteps the card networks entirely, and for a player in that position it is the difference between having an account and not. That is a real, specific use case and it is the honest reason to use it.

In fairness, so is instant EFT: Ozow, SID and Capitec Pay are ordinary bank payments rather than card transactions and generally work where cards do not. Try those first — they are simpler and they keep everything in rand.

The two problems it creates

An exchange step. You must buy Bitcoin with rand on a local exchange, move it to the casino, and reverse the process to cash out. Each leg carries a fee and takes time, and the round trip is rarely cheaper than an EFT.

Price movement. Between buying and depositing, the rand value of your holding moves. Over the minutes involved it is usually trivial; over the days a withdrawal can take, it is not. Where it is worth it

If your card is declined and instant EFT is unavailable at your chosen operator, crypto is the route that works. If you are withdrawing a large amount and the operator pays crypto faster than it pays EFT, the speed is real. Outside those two situations, instant EFT is simpler, cheaper and denominated in the currency you actually spend.

A note on "crypto casinos"

The operators above are ordinary casinos that accept Bitcoin as one payment method among several. That is different from a crypto-native casino operating entirely outside conventional payment rails — a category with far more variable standards of licensing, verification and dispute resolution.
